Equity Practice
I am a white, cisgendered, heterosexual, neurodivergent woman who holds a deep love of diversity, equity and inclusion and a commitment to learning about discrimination: how it works, how to make amends in its wake, how to transform it. I devote energy to creating spaces where people feel welcome.
In my practice, I prioritize human dignity and rights. I am aware that many people hold identities that have been historically and are presently being oppressed, and have consequently experienced harm. Living from the principal of equity, I cultivate a “call in” culture in client dialogs, which means that when I observe harm based in oppression arising between people, I name it and invite the people involved to respond in a way that transforms the harm into learning and reconnection. This Art Heals is a good fit for you if you are open to participating in and learning from restorative processes.
This year I moved to so-called Port Townsend which is in the unceded lands of the S’Klallum people and the Chemakum people of the Salish Sea. Historically, these and all first nation peoples in every place I have lived suffered undeserved and unimaginable pain and trauma at the hands of white colonists, some of whom are my ancestors. This legacy of harm continues to impact indigenous people who live in this community with me.
I will do my part to heal the harm my people inflict on first nation peoples and to empower present-day indigenous leadership, which I believe is necessary to heal the wounds passed through the generations that have survived colonialism. These generations include all nature-family beings: human, animal, plant, stone, all of the elements seen and unseen, and our Great Parent, the Earth. I am committed to the path of allyship and reconciliation, to grieving when there is loss and to dreaming into being a world where all beings may thrive.
