Is This Art Heals a Fit For You?

Good Fit for This Art Heals

You are a social artist. You create best in a group or with a partner.

You are ready to prioritize how you own needs while you create over how the finished product looks.

You want to see your true self in what you create or hear them as you sing.

You want creative freedom and support, not instructions on how to do it in the same way as your teacher.  Instead of being told what to create and how to paint it, you want to work with a facilitator who knows that you know best what to create and that you already have all the skills you need to do this. You want a teacher who cheers on authentic expression and names the false narratives of inner critical voices.

You used to love art, but at some point one of your peers or teachers made a critical comment of something you created that shut you down. It hurt so much you stopped making art, maybe for decades. You want to try art again, but you don’t want to be judged like that ever again.

You know you feel better when you create. The kind of art you are most interested in is healing art.

You are ready to prioritize your needs as you create over how the finished product looks. You are willing to entertain my believe that you already have all the skills you need to do this.

You want to create in a place where all human feelings are welcomed and respected.

You appreciate working in groups where the facilitator supports consent and privacy.

You are open to expressing your feelings in front of other people and appreciate being vulnerable when you need to be.

.

Better fit elsewhere

You are a solo artist. You create best when you have time and space all to yourself.

You want to learn a set of skills to make art in a specific style (like watercolor florals, charcoal portraits, etc)

What is most important is how other people feel when they experience your art.

You want to watch an art teacher create and copy what they do.

You want a critique of what you make from your facilitator and peers.

You are most interested in learning to make art that serves as a product.

There are skills you feel you need to learn to get the effects in art that you desire.

You prefer interactions to stay light and not too personal.

After you attend a class, think you should be free to talk about other people and their stories if you want to.

You do not think it is appropriate to express your feelings in front of others.
